Let’s Talk Soap: Rain Water

All last week we had a whole heck of a lot of rain so I decided to make soap. Well as I was gathering all of supplies, I discovered I was out of distilled water. What to do? Then I thought hey I have access to all the free water I want…RAIN. I set up my elaborated rain collection system and waited. I collected a half gallon of rainwater. I did the green thing I saved on gas, and I helped the environment. Rainwater is naturally filtered so it does not contain minerals or harsh chemicals

By using rainwater, less demand is placed on municipally treated water. Less demand means that less energy is needed to treat both incoming water and outgoing (sewage) water.

NOTE: Collected rainwater should be drained from collection containers within seven days, to help prevent stagnation and the possibility of mosquito breeding.
